  Mathias and Mary Hauser

Sometimes love is represented by the courage to go on after a partner's death. Mathias Hauser ran a grocery here as early as 1864. With his death in 1873, however, Mary was left alone with two children and this store. Five years later, her name was listed as its owner in the City Directory.
