Louis Oldendorf was born in Bavaria in 1811 and died in Columbus in 1889. He had a variety of careers including tailoring.

Immigrants from Europe in the 1880's, replaced seamstresses. In this system, manufacturers provided raw materials, designed the clothes, and marketed the final product. Shops were responsible for sewing items together.
